Scientist/Senior Scientist, Bioassay Development

Summary:

Silverback Therapeutics, a Seattle-based biotechnology company, is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and collaborative laboratory scientist to join our CMC Analytical Development team. The successful candidate will directly contribute to the product development and implementation of analytical assays to support Silverback’s pipeline programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute product specific cell-based bioassays, as well as non-cell-based potency assays (ELISA, BLI, etc.) to support release and characterization of antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates.
  • Provide laboratory support for drug substance and product stability, and IND-enabling studies.
  • Prepare assay protocols and reports for internal use and transfer to Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMO).
  • Collaborate with internal functional groups such as discovery biology, protein engineering, conjugation chemistry, and CMC development teams.
  • Interface effectively with analytical development and quality control teams at CMO.
  • Manage and contribute to day-to-day operations and equipment maintenance in the lab.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in engineering or life sciences, with 2+ years of relevant experience in the biotech industry, or MS degree with 8+ years of experience, or BS degree with 10+ years of experience.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture techniques, including primary human cells and established or engineered human cell lines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the execution, principles, and analysis of cell-based and ELISA-based potency assays. Experience in multi-cell immunoassays is a plus.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, and binding kinetics by SPR or BLI is desirable.
  • Capable of planning, executing, and interpreting experimental work with limited supervision.
  • Prior experience in developing and transferring analytical test methods to CRO/CMO is considered an advantage.
  • Strong scientific documentation skills to support the writing of assay protocols and technical reports for internal documents and regulatory filings.
  • Familiarity with ICH guidance documents related to analytical procedures and familiarity with the USP and other compendia are desirable.
  • Flexible, results oriented and demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, timeline-driven environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills; provides strong critical thinking and constructive feedback.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal team and external collaborators.
  • Will work tirelessly to foster an environment of transparency and direct dialogue.
  • Ability to travel (5-10%) to domestic/international sites. Currently travel restrictions apply due to COVID-19.
  • A strong team player with a passion for science and helping discover and develop novel therapies for unmet medical needs.
